Can you afford a decent night away from home?
I use to think that I couldn’t afford a vacation because I didn’t have $500+ to spend to get away. My rent alone cost $550+ for a one bedroom and when I had a couple hundred to spend I would laugh at the mere thought of taking a mini vacation on it. I would able to afford one or two days away and that would be it.
My bank account laughed along with me.
But laughing at that thought was a mistake because one or two nights is all we need to give our brain a boost. When we feel like life has become repetitive, it is time to get away. The first trip I took with my son was for 3 days and we enjoyed every minute of it. It got me away long enough to gain a different perspective.
I used hotwire for the hotel. They have good deals and even better prices if you take a chance of booking a hotel without knowing which hotel you’ll be staying at. I have a family member that did it that way and got the Roosevelt Hotel in New York.
However, I haven’t and I booked knowing which hotel I was going to stay at and I chose the Warwick hotel in Seattle. Later I found out that I could stay at the same hotel for low rates for $70 and even if that means staying for one night, the kid and I will pack up and leave for the night.
Money saving tips.
I took public transportation to the next city over for $7.00 and we walked everywhere while we were there. I have learned the lesson of buying groceries because going out to eat and room service is expensive and there is no free food in hotel rooms most of the time.
So if you get hungry at night make sure you did a bit of shopping beforehand so you aren’t ordering late night room service that comes with a delivery fee, gratitude fee, and tax fee. A sandwich alone can run up $25 just with all the fees. The sandwich being $12 alone, which is still pretty steep.
If you have $200 and you think you can’t afford a night away, think again.
Here are some screenshots below of some of the deals I have found. If you live another state and are reading this, continue to check for deals on other sites such as Expedia, Groupon, and other sites that offer deals.
Continue to check rates at your local hotels to get away.
Gain a fresh perspective or some relaxation.
Seattle is 45mintues from us and we don’t go there often so it is nice to get go there once and while and just breathe in the city life. Often times we just need to prioritize our finances as well. Check out this article on world travel and another bonus read where a mom travels for $76 a day.
